Not every princess is the same. You have all kinds, tomboyish ones, girly-girl ones, aspiring queens-to-be with cunning minds... Carina herself is somewhere on that spectrum, but for what it's worth, she's almost more known for her magic studies than she is for her ruling prowess, dresses, or gods-forbid, tomboyish antics. Not that she isn't somewhat talented in ruling...
Carina's big issue is that she's a bit of a shut in, studying light magic and spirit arts and other such things that catch her fancy. She just finds supernatural prowess so /invigorating/. She does have a sister who is first in line anyway, so why not let her be the face of the kingdom? Indeed, Carina is more the type to give advice from the shadows...
Still, sometimes her power is actually needed to save the kingdom, so she sallies forth on the Wings Radiant to fight evil (or simple political enemies) alongside her parents' armies, always protected due to her lineal importance but valued for her magical abilities. Other times... well, she's just out and about looking for more to read about, or otherwise abusing her relative freedom as lower-in-line!
