Cansu is a slime, as if it wasn't obvious. While slimes are technically genderless, Cansu opts to be treated as a male. Slimes aren't really known for their high intelligence, Cansu was a slime that had absorbed a few magic items and through them gained sentience. He also gained memories of those items. In his fractured sentience, he consumed a number of magic items, getting more and more of a clear mind each time. Eventually he completed his sentience to the point where he could work to making his body into a humanoid form. He could learn to speak, read and write in a very basic form. After that his goal to keep taking in knowledge.
At first most other races didn't really like having him around, but you know, he's a slime. They eat everything right?! While yes, he could eventually digest anything, he chooses not to. He took on the appears of a human boy he saw to try and make himself more approachable. He even took up wearing clothes! What eventually broke him into society was him running into a group with two elven mages. He formed himself inside a set of their clothes, every traveler carries several set of clothes after all. This led to a stand off before Cansu was able to get to the point where he was talking to the mages. Of course who had heard of a slime taking, or one that knew several languages?! They talk in elven before the mages let Cansu join them for a time. The mages found Cansu was ethereally, incredibly dense. Cansu explains how he came to have his sentience and how that might be why. The two mages were fascinated, this lead to several talks about the slime staying with the mages.
After a while, the mages managed to get Cansu to their school of magic and bring up what they'd discovered in Cansu. After first the headmaster was against the slime being there, given Cansu liked absorbing magic items. Eventually when Cansu finds a chance to speak, he simply says that it's the FASTEST way for him to learn. After he managed to become literate, he found he could learn like other humaniods do. Just....who would ever teach a slime anything? The headmaster answered this question, the elves would teach him. A deal was struck, Cansu would be admitted to the school under supervision and he would allow some experiment in how he gained knowledge and sentience. Cansu seemed fine with this. Any knowledge he gained was enough for him.
Fast forward seven years.
Cansu having little else or want to do but study, he quickly became a top student in the college. Of course being a slime he was a big target of attention, good and bad, over the years. He didn't finish top of the class or anything, but he did manage the equalivent of graduating with honors. Cansu didn't want to leave such a place he'd learned so much from. The school eventually took Cansu in completely. He was given a instructor's outfit to wear and a place to stay. From there is explores the world at large, at the behest of the school of course, so he can continue his never ending hunt for knowledge...
