Oh, right, it can't, because it's a mindless machine. And I don't even mean that as an insult! It has no goddamn consciousness!
And it can't eat people, either, or kill them. Fuck, it brings them back from the dead! That's, like, the opposite of vore! Why the fuck am I giving this thing a profile?
Well, it's mostly because I'm cleaning house on the Maddie_Scientist alt, cutting the dead weight if you will. And CLONR isn't exactly dead weight, but he's not really vital info, either.
Let me explain. CLONR, or aCtuaLly dOesN't stand foR anything (ain't I clever?), is a cloning device in two parts. The first part is a big tank of green jelly with lots of metal bits and wires coming off it. The second is a microchip in Maddie's body that can detect when life signs stop working. In the instance they do, the chip takes a 4-dimensional photograph of the exact state of Maddie's brain, and sends that information to the jelly tank which rebuilds her entire consciousness from that. The tank has a file of her exact cellular make-up and rebuilds her.
It's a fairly straightforward piece of sci-fi nonsense, and allows Maddie to have her fun without fear of consequence, and because the file of her cellular make-up never changes she doesn't need to worry about disease or aging beyond twenty-[redacted]. In short, it doesn't require nearly as much of an explanation as I just gave it.
But the thing is that it does have a couple of flaws, and those perhaps need some explaining.
The first is that the chip in Maddie's body (bodies) has a range, and if Maddie travels a certain distance or time or through dimensions, it may not work. This is primarily to allow me to make Maddie frightened when I feel like it and to lend some weight to story-heavy RPs.
The second is more complicated. See, if Maddie's physical make-up changes in such a way that she no longer requires a heartbeat, CLONR will believe she is dead and generate a new Maddie. So, if she gets turned into a succubus or a vampire or whathaveyou--as she has (see Sahviah and Pyre)--the machine will spit out a new one. As a result Sahviah is the longest-living Maddie clone, but also not a Maddie clone at all, because being a succubus altered her personality. Same with Pyre.
Sliders vary wildly between my characters. This one, for example, doesn't have any, because it's inanimate and lacks both whims and the ability to act on them. Please see AllIn1 for a list of characters you can actually play with.
