Areko

It seems that every land has a legend. There's tales of wild princes, gallant knights, powerful sorcerers, and the like, no matter where you go. Their names change, but often their deeds are remarkably similar. Most of these tales are a bit overblown, of course, but some of them are astonishingly accurate, and in every case the hero has always earned their reputation.

Areko? Well, he's a Prince of the Nelir. Having just completed his mandatory military service, he's out on his own to do what he pleases for the first time in five years, and he's trying to make the best of it. He's off to see the world!

Pity he's not in his world anymore. Things happen, though...

In his wanderings, Areko stumbled upon an old portal generator that was, yes, defective... it was in fact incredibly glitchy, and as he peered at it, it opened a portal underneath him, quite literally dropping him into another world! When he arrived, he fell, and hit his head, knocking himself senseless.

When he came to, he was... well. He was tied to a stake by the superstitious commoners of the village he was in, and his weapons were out of his grasp. However, they didn't know anything about him or his people, else they'd not have tried to burn him at the stake. That just made him angry.... and angry Nelir are very, very dangerous.

No, he didn't turn into the incredible hulk. However, Nelir have an innate ability to control the elements, and he used his to burn away the ropes binding him. The commoners panicked and fled... and he managed to control himself, which was a pretty good thing, as it happened. He didn't HURT anyone(though several people lost their dignity that night), and he did retrieve his equipment. When he simply left rather than razing the town, what authorities found out about it were less inclined to pursue him.

Left to his own devices, Areko has since become a mercenary. He's looking for a way home, trying to get back to his own world, but that's not going to be easy, considering his circumstances. He has no idea where he arrived at, or if the generator opens two-way portals, or if there's time drift between dimensions, or anything like that! Talk about a pain in the ass... Still. For now, his mercenary lifestyle suits him!

Areko himself is a tall fellow, fully six and a half feet tall when he stands up straight. His skin is tanned from lots of time outdoors, and he sports his fair share of scars, earned in training and in combat. However, he's quick to smile, showing off perfectly white teeth, and quicker to laugh at a good joke. His eyes are a pale, glacial blue, and his hair is black, cropped short on his head.

However, he's not human, and that's obvious to those who look closely enough. His ears are elfin, slim and pointed, while his face, arms, legs, and chest all sport markings on them, blue in color, which move when he uses his powers. These were why the commoners tried to burn him alive.

As for his powers, as a Prince of the Nelir he has control over the elements, and the ability to generate blasts of Fire or Air in combination with certain motions. Earth and Water require a contribution from the environment, though. As well, he can pick up languages quickly, and he can see and hear better than a human. He's also stronger for his size than a human would be, with better stamina, though most people wouldn't know it.

As far as weapons go, he tends to fight with a dao saber, not using a shield to leave his off hand free for other forms of attack. His clothing is tight fitting cloth, while he wears a light chain shirt under an overshirt on his chest. His sword is typically worn on his back, and he carries a small satchel of essentials with him.
