Arcana_Knight

The Arcana Knight, a venerable, legendary title, slowly passed down through the ages. To many, the very title, Arcana Knight, is one worthy of reverence and awe. A name that springs to mind magnificent deeds and unmatchable acts of valor and heroism. The title of Arcana Knight has existed for centuries, passed on from warrior to warrior, each one standing against the things that lurk in the dark, each risking life and limb to protect the people of the kingdoms, to slay the most dangerous of beasts and stand against the cruelest of tyrants. Yet, despite the unmistakable power and unmatchable valor, few people know much, if anything about the Arcana Knights. Not how they work, how they are chosen, or even where their power comes from.

Elizabeth understands. Elizabeth knows. For Elizabeth is the Twenty First Arcana Knight, the twenty first of her kind, and at present? The only one. There has only ever been one Arcana Knight, at least at one time. They have been men, women, elves and humans, even a dwarf at one point, but only ever one. Her predecessor was the Twentieth Arcana Knight, and before her was the Nineteenth, and so on and so on until the very first, so very long ago. Yet, she understands her purpose, the role of the Arcana Knight, and what she must do.

The Arcana Knight's power is right in the name, the Arcana. The Twenty Two Arcana that govern humanity and to an extent, fate itself. A fragment of their power resides within Elizabeth, and she is able to take up the form of each as she needs. Chariot, Strength, Emperor, Stars, and all the rest. However, there are rules. Elizabeth can only channel the power of one of the Arcana at a time. If while in the guise of the Chariot, she seeks the power of the Hermit, then she must withdraw the Chariot, losing the powers it grants for as long as she remains as the Hermit. Another effect of this, is that each guise looks different, sometimes drastically different. Sometimes, Elizabeth barely recognizes herself when she sees one of the Arcana in the mirror.

This has led to the long standing misconception over the years that the Knight Arcana is the 'Knights' Arcana. She can look so different, that people often think of her, as they have thought of her predecessors. That she is actually several women, each one a Knight Arcana fighting to defend the realm and fight the good fight. She doesn't really mind the misconception. If anything it's one that works in her favor, as it can lead enemies to thinking that she won't have this or that power, because she doesn't look like this or that knight. Ultimately though, her true goal is one that ever seems to stay one step ahead of her, a goal that she has to accomplish, no matter what the cost. Even if that might mean abandoning the fight...

Every Arcana Knight has had a particularly strong connection with one of the Arcana, the powers in that guise magnified. It is easy to figure out which one, by which one they are. As the twenty first, Elizabeth is closest to the Arcana of Judgement. The one who comes after her, her successor, will be closest to the Twenty Second arcana, the final Arcana.

The World.

Elizabeth was told by her mentor that the Twenty Second would be the single most important Arcana Knight to ever live. The World is powerful, perhaps the strongest. Elizabeth herself can maintain it's guise for only mere minutes before the strain wears on her, but the Twenty Second? They will be able to last in that guise indefinitely. They will suffer not from any wear, and if what Elizabeth's predecessor told her is true, the Twenty Second will face one of the greatest threats that has ever existed and ever will. For this reason, Elizabeth must find her successor, she simply must find her, train her and pass on this power, before this great threat casts its shadow over the world.
