In Japan, arcades are a dime a dozen, but still one of the strongest and most popular past times for people of practically any age. The cheap fee for the machines and the many varied games forms a strong draw that has kept it thriving even as video games advance. Still it is a fiercely competitive market, and any edge can mean the difference between having thronging crowds, and having just too few to actually make it. The Cheshire Cabinet, has Chifuyu. Chifuyu is the 'Arcade Hostess.' She helps run the arcade, she exchanges things for prizes is the host for any special events or competitions the arcade holds, and is the smiling, beautiful face of the Arcade. She's also one of the prizes!

At Cheshire's Cabinet, there are a number of ways to earn 'prize tokens.' These range from claiming a spot on high score tables, to conquering various difficult modes in certain arcade games, and of course, the classic games that Americans associate with earning tickets. Once one has enough, they can go to the prize counter and pick all kinds of things, there's a lot of prizes available, but there's one set that draws the eye more than any other. If one has enough tokens, they can pick a 'Chifuyu prize.' These range from getting to spend one hour with her, ala an actual Japanese hostess, to earning her for an entire day or even longer! The hour prize is something one can purchase with no strings attached. However, getting her for a day requires something...more. Spending their tokens on that gets them the right to attempt and get her...in a direct gaming contest with the Hostess herself! If the buyer manages to beat her, they get their prize, Chifuyu, all to themselves, to do whatever they want with her for a day or however long they bought her for. However, if Chifuyu wins? It goes the other way around too, and let's just say she has a rather impressive record when it comes to these attempts.

In fact, it goes a lot deeper than that. A few people even suspect that Chifuyu, no last name known, actually owns the arcade! In fact it goes further, some don't think she has a home, that she lives in it, and some have suspicions about how big the arcade actually is and where some of the rather strange games came from. Some even say that contests against Chifuyu are rigged, that she loans out tokens if you run out, but if you can't make enough tickets you don't come out of the arcade. People say a lot of things, and Chifuyu just smiles brightly against it all and tells people not to worry, that people always love to spread rumors, and how about a game? Do well enough and you might get to take her home for the night~!
