Background:

Isn't life in the sea boring? Meeting the same fish every day in day out, oh and believe Aquaria, fish aren't very talkative or interesting. However there are laws forbidding her to leave the deep see, but of course a young mermaid doesn't give much about those laws. They just don't make sense, right? How dangerous could it possibly be to go and visit the humans in their towns over the surface? After all they had the ability to grow legs, even though they only lasted 44 minutes before turning back in the usual, long heavy mermaid tail.

Sadly Aquaria is the only mermaid in her village who thinks that way, everyone else seemed to be to stubborn or too old to feel that urge for exploration she did. Ever since she was a youngling, she had explored the regions around town, leading a small group of her friends into caves, showing them a reef that was dangerously close to the surface, she even dared to stick her head out of the water and breath, instead of just taking in oxygen with her gils when she was 16. When telling her parents about it they grounded her for three months, telling her it was dangerous out there, what if the humans found her? It didn't even matter to them that her people used to feast on humans, but that was when their ships were still made of wood instead of steal, and didn't make those terrible noise when moving through the sea, they had even started to dive and almost found them.

Aquaria only knew that back in the old days humans had extinct most of her people, hunting them down for their scales, taking them as lucky charms and of course taking revenge for all the people they had pulled under the surface to eat them. You see, mermaid stomachs are quite stretchy, as are their mouths, designed by nature to eat their meals whole and squirming, they were even more fierce that sharks, only scared of large killer whales that were terribly hard to kill even with the merfolks abilities to use weapons.
