"I hope its ok...i mean...i know that its covered in chocolate and all...and has lots of fruit filling..Yes...yes i know oranges are weird on top of a cake....Yeah its kinda sweet, but i mean, who doesnt like sweets?"
Anacelle was born to bake...
Even from a very young age, the girl knew the idea behind good baking, having made her first batch of sugar cookies at the age of five. At the age of 8, she learned how to do chocolate work, making both truffles and beautiful fudge that most people could not even hope to accomplish till years later. By age 15, she was graduating from culinary school, and even though she had a knack for all forms of cuisine....she would always be best at her favorite foods of all, sweets. Granted, it all made sense, her father being a famous baker, and her mother a chocolateer, she just seemed to have gotten the best of both out of them.....though ironically enough, the day she went into business
...was the day she drove them out of business.....'Chocolat à l'orange' the Pastry shop named after one of her best selling fresh desserts almost immediately became renown for being the best of the best when it came toward desserts. Sweet and rich, they were always sold in small portions, as anything too large would put people into either sugar-rush like states...or in one horrid case a diabetic shock coma, but that was only one time....
...seriously, only one time!
Personality: Just like her confections, she is a sweet girl, trying to make friends with anyone who comes into the shop. Unlike many who can a bit of a big head about their desserts, she does not mind it when people criticize her work, claiming that things are too sweet, or not sweet enough, have the wrong flavor or otherwise...as she just takes it to note and does even try it their way...
...Generally she gets no complaints though.
Outside of her cooking, she has a fondness for strolling along parks, enjoying the breeze as it blows through her hair, flowers, swimming and fishing even, but most especially she is fond of sitting underneath a tree and reading, whether it be fantasy, poetry, or a culinary book.
She, like her shop, always has the faint smell of chocolate about her, and to further that scent, she like to use orange lip gloss and body lotions on her skin sometimes. Those things tend to make the few people who get to kiss her, or get close to delight at the fact she does taste as sweet as her baking.
Notable items on Menu:
spécialité fruits (Fruit specialties)
Chocolat à l'orange (Chocolate Orange): Not the infamously orange flavored chocolate that one thinks of, but instead it is a sugar-candied slice of orange, dipped in a chocolate ganache and served on a crispy tort-like cookie. Amazingly rich and sweet, not for the faint of heart, as the ganache alone is renoun for its amazing punch.
Clafoutis aux Cerises(Cherry Clafoutis): A Famous dessert from the Limousine region of france, a warm flan-like cake is baked with fresh black cherries, making for a deliciously smooth and sweet slice of heaven. Warning to those who try it new, it is made in the traditional form, meaning the pits are inside the cherries, making for a beautiful nutty crunch.
Poire Belle-Hélène (Pear Belle-Hélène): Invented in Paris in the 19th century and were named after an opera by Offenbach, this delicious pear dish is one of the few that contain her home made vanilla ice cream, the pears are poached perfectly before layered over the top of the ice cream, and finished off with a delightful helping of chocolate ganache.
Chocolat aux Fruit: A seasonal specialty, its simply a bowl of the current fruit in season, drenched in chocolate ganache....considerd to be the tamest of desserts at the shop
Pâtisseries (Pastries)
Mille Feuille: The name translating to 'a thousand sheets' this is a crispy puff pastry, filled with an amazingly rich buttercream, known in the america's as a 'napoleon'. Generally served as is, Chocolat à l'orange will also serve it with a thin slice of chocolate if requested, along with fruit toppings the same.
Choux Chantilly: A freshly prepared Choux pastry is cut in half, and lightly the halves are dipped into a sweet vanilla oil. Heavy cream and, you guessed it, vanilla are whipped together heavily to create the filling of this light, airy dish. Served plain, or with chocolate and raspbery ganache over the top.
Les Trois Gourmandes: The name translating to 'The three gourmets', This rich dessert is similar to the Choux Chantilly, except it is three ganache dipped choux pastry, placed on the edges of a plate, with thick buttercream layered in a Y formation between all three pastry, The dish is finished off with shavings of chocolate. Generally served to a group, this dish is very heavy and rich.
Truffles:
If you dont know what a truffle is, your in for a treat. It goes without saying that truffles are the queen of all French chocolates. Delicate and pure, they account for a great deal of the shops sales, with a huge variety of flavors, featuring 'Le lait, noir et chocolat amer(Milk, dark and bitter Chocolate)'
Some of the best flavors are as follow
Grand Marnier à l'orange: What one thinks when they hear chocolate orange, the smooth dark chocolate is a perfect contrast to the sharp bite of Grand mariner, and the familar flavor of orange.
Menthe Noir: A stark contrast to many of the creamy sweet delights in the shop, this truffle is an amazing bite of peppermint, coupled with the bitter snap of dark chocolate. Perfect for pallete clensing, and much loved by the men drug into the shop either to stare at Anacelle, or buying chocolates for their loves.
Citron vert: Milk chocolate and lime? One would not think such a combination would even be possible, but delicious key limes are shipped into the shop from flordia to make this delicious taste of the islands possible. The lime alone is what makes this truffle refreshing.
La grande tentation: Literally the richest thing in her store. Wrapped in a gold foil, this truffle is not for the faint of heart in the least....or at all for that matter! Named by someone who often came into the store to buy truffles, but never got 'The grand Temptation' to buy the golden wrapped ones, These truffles are literally pounds of butter and chocolate all reduced into a single simple sphere that, upon eating, almost overloads the tastebuds with the sweetness and flavor. Has been known to cause people to pass out in shock....along with causing its share of 'sudden climaxes' in people...Definitely not for the faint of heart.
And the one thing in the picture
Sachertort a l'orange: A Austrian chocolate cake made into a french delicacy, it is by far the richest thing on the menu. The cake itself made traditionally....but that's where the similarities end. Within the cake, Grand mariner l'orange truffles, half the size of the normal, are pushed in for a delicious bite of chocolate here and there, the cake itself frosted with a chocolate fondant based on the infamous ganache. Its served with the candied oranges, and orange sauce drizzled over the top.
