Death is not always the end of your troubles.... for some, it is only the beginning.

Amael used to be a fairly ordinary little girl. She lived, of course, with all that implies... pain, happiness, joy, sorrow, friends, and enemies. However... life, as it were, was not kind to her. Sadness, anger, impotent rage, all piled upon her, over and over and over, a crushing weight of emotion... culminating, finally, in her death.

Death was not the end, though.

Amael took her life, but she was granted another, of sorts... As a being known as a Haibane. Supposedly human... though with differences. Unlike most Haibane, though, she was not born where she should have been... she came into the world alone, in a dark alley, with no one to guide her, no one to explain what was going on. And let me tell you, what happens to Haibane shortly after they're born can really screw with someone's head.

She was lost, and alone, though thankfully she had clothes. Wet clothes, though.... and it was cold, the wind biting into her. And that's not the worst of it. No.... that was when she grew her wings.

It's excruciatingly painful, for some... and when there's no one around to help you with it, ohh, its so much worse. Amael had no idea what was happening... only that it hurt.... and then there was a tearing sensation.

When she woke up, it was to the feel of rain falling on her..... soaking her further... washing the blood from her wings. Getting up... she staggered out of the alley, into a life she didn't understand, among people who would not, or could not, accept her....

Five feet tall, with black hair, brown eyes, and dainty off-white wings emerging from her back, she's not too remarkable to look at, if you should notice her at all. wearing an overlarge army surplus jacket, with slits cut for her wings, she's.... kind of a sad sight. Helpless...
