Alexiel
An awe-inspiring entry in
Celestial creatures are virtuous beings from the upper realms. Servants of deities of good and law.
Many see celestials (especially those classified as 'angels') as 'winged humans'.
And this, in many cases, is how they present themselves. Humanoid, unassuming, even pleasant or beautiful.
It helps, especially while interfacing with mortals. For some lesser celestials, this is their true form, limited in scope and power.
For others, greater in power and scope, closer to their deity, they cannot appear to mortal creatures in their true form.
The raw presence of creatures so infused and filled with deific might can be incredibly hazardous to mortals.
Alexiel is a Deva of the First Choir,
the Virtue of Judgement for the god Cyonva, Lord of Mercy.
Celestials of the First Choir are second only to their Lord in power.
Invested with a portion of the divine power of Cyonva, they are trusted to act as instruments of the divine will in the
realms at large. Unlike lesser celestials, they are given freedom of choice
and will, and trusted to act upon it, the essential goodness of their beings serving as a moral compass for them.
But, such beings cannot manifest themselves fully upon the Material Realm without consequence. The sheer weight of them can, in the worst
cases, shatter reality itself. Even in lesser cases, mortals and lesser beings who view a Deva of the First Choir
can in some cases spontaneously combust, be driven insane, or otherwise be struck dumb, deaf or blind.
So, celestials of Alexiel's metaphysical 'mass' have the ability to Become. Becoming is akin to some creatures who
shapeshift, others who wear glamours to 'seem' as something else, or creatures who are powered by arcane magics who can polymorph
themselves via spells. In the case of a celestial, it is something of a different matter. As beings of pure energy and manifest will,
they literally 'become' something else, hence the term.
As one might guess, this limits the powers that a celestial can draw upon while in said forms.
Appearance:
Alexiel has many forms it can Become, but there are a few it favors by default. The first is seen to the left.
An elegant humanoid, with pale skin, and long, dark hair, Alexiel is certainly striking.
It appears male at first glance, and indeed, it would be easy to assume that Alexiel is, in fact, male. But this form is genderless,
it's body fit, but androgynous, equally comfortable presenting as either male or female.
It's long dark hair is often held up in a ponytail, swept back, revealing ornate earrings of gold and ruby that dangle from
delicate earlobes. Piercing blue eyes and a devastating smile only add to the striking allure.
Powers:
Divine Potency- While it's powers are constrained by it's semi-mortal form, Alexiel is still an instrument of divine will.
Channeling radiant energies, the forces of creation itself, used to heal or harm, create or destroy, are all Alexiel's to use as it sees
fit. Depending on the potency, these talents can harm or even destroy it's current Becoming, but do no ultimate harm to Alexiel's
true self.
Becoming- Alexiel is able to use the forces of creation and it's own existence as a creature of energy and will to shape different
forms for itself. These can be as varied in appearance and power as one could possibly imagine, though it tends to keep to those that
are familiar unless given good reason to do otherwise. Typical variations on it's usual appearance include taking on 'gender', whether
that be becoming male, with what that entails, or female.
True Sight- Alexiel sees things as they are. In less restricted forms, it may be able to see what will be and what has been,
or even read the thoughts and emotions of those around it, but in it's usual forms, this merely entails piercing illusions, and seeing
both what something currently is, and what it originally was, if it is some sort of shape-changer be it magic or otherwise.
Singularity of Purpose- Despite anything else, Alexiel is driven by it's divine mandate. Alexiel is a Virtue of Judgement. It has
been given leave to pass judgement in any matter it sees fit, though this typically pertains to issues of good and evil in the elemental
sense. While it is not powerless outside of it's mandate, it's powers are somewhat limited. It is, however, vulnerable to the Vice
(or Sin) that opposes it, namely Sloth.
True Form- Alexiel is fully capable of revealing it's true form if required. The effects of such a display are devastating and
far-reaching, and typically there is little that can force Alexiel into such a position.
