Dullahan, in a nutshell
The Irish dullahan (also Gan Ceann, meaning "without a head" in Irish) is a type of unseelie fairie. It is headless, usually seen riding a black horse and carrying his or her head under one arm.
"Well..um...that's true with me at least..."
The head's eyes are massive and constantly dart about like flies, while the mouth is constantly in a hideous grin that touches both sides of the head.
"W..what? M..my eyes and mouth aren't that big!" *Blush*
The dullahan's whip is actually a human corpse's spine, and the wagons they sometimes use are made of similarly funereal objects (e.g. candles in skulls to light the way, the spokes of the wheels made from thigh bones, the wagon's covering made from a worm-chewn pall).
"I...um...actually use a Scythe...and ride a nightmare..um..if i need to ride at all anyway
When the dullahan stops riding, it is where a person is due to die. The dullahan calls out their name, at which point they immediately perish.
"...they don't always perish...only if they have a black heart....if they have a pure heart...um...well..I fight death away from them
There is no way to bar the road against a dullahan—all locks and gates open on their own when it approaches.
"...Huh...they do, don't they..."
Also, they do not appreciate being watched while on their errands, throwing a basin of blood on those who dare to do so (often a mark that they are among the next to die), or even lashing out the watchers' eyes.
*blushes hard* "...I...er...uh...um...dont look at me!" *Tosses basin, shy dullahan*
Nonetheless, they are frightened of gold, and even a single gold pin can drive a dullahan away.
"...w.what...they don't at all....g..get that pin away from me!" *Flees*

Backstory
It's funny how history only ever seems to be about the horrible parts. Wars, Famine, Plague. Even the tails of the Fair folk are twisted and bent over the years, turning beings that act with both good and evil into horrid abominations.
Alastriona is one of the old fair folk, or Fae....one of the oldest at that, and she remembers when her kind, the Dullahan, were seen as what they were suppose to be. The headless judges of life and death, when one's life was to be cut short. Those with a wicked heart would meet death's scythe...which was most everyone they delt with as most who lived short lives were dying of rather unnatural causes, either though disease brought upon themselves, or are about to be murdered or worse.
What history forgets is that they deal with life and death when one's life is cut short....If someone if of a good heart and lives without regret....Dullahan are honor bound to protect them from death, no matter how much death wishes to shuffle loose the mortal coil, putting their own lives in danger. It is this reason as to why they have their heads detachable, as death's favorite blow is to sever the neck.
Even with the twists and turns history has done to her life, she still does her duties...as much as she needs to, anyway...most people tend not to die or have their lives cut short any longer, and with the surplus of people in the world, death doesn't put up as much of a fight as he/she/it use to.
...sometimes, though...she does need to protect someone for days, months...even years after the fact.
Personality
Alastriona, outside of her work, is intensely shy, and blushes at the drop of a hat, and often times cant even bring herself to speak....if one pushes on her, though, she is very kind and cheerful at the least.
Her body is flesh, quite warm flesh at that, and her body can have a mind of its own beyond her head...especially if its horny. She can ignore it, her body is incapable....you are warned.
Anything else you have to learn on your own!
Powers
Scythe: Seriously sharp and deadly accurate, she can fashion a scythe or even a simple kama to defend herself, able to throw it with deadly accuracy.
Perish song: No, not pokemon. More of a little thing she does, when someone is to have their life cut short, she sings to them in gaelic, in an attempt to soften the idea and not get attacked in the process of doing her duty.
Blood Basin: If she is ever caught in a moment of intense shyness and someone continues to tease or bother her, she WILL throw her basin of blood at you, which will cause temporary blindness, and those with wicked hearts will lose half their life span if they are malicious to her.
Unlock: All doors unlock, all chests open, all traps disable, all blockades fall at a touch of her bare hand. She wears gloves for a reason, as one touch...can cause someone's clothes to fall right off....which cues her blushing hard.
Ignored: Being of a race that relies on peoples belief, she generally cannot be seen by just anyone. Only those with strong ties to the spirit world, or strong belief of the supernatural are able to see her, otherwise she is flat out unseen by anyone. People escaping freak accidents can often times be attributed to a dullahan.
Other things to note
Though her body is flesh, she is still a spirit, therefore does not have life force the same way as others.
Spiritual objects can harm her, if someone truly believes in them as a holy object.
As she has no neck, there is a rather large black hole in the top of her armor that leads right to her stomach...its how she eats, if she even needs to, and occasionally black magical smoke rises from it, especially if she's embarrassed.
Don't stick your hand in her head hole, it hurts her.
Yes, there is a body under that armor...a sexy body. Cmon, she is a Monster Girl...and yes she can have sex.
Don't think you just can though, Shy, remember?
