Kaede was a passionate student of magic. Originally, she would push herself to study hard at the trade, aiming to gain mastery over magic. To gain more power, she tried her hand in the ancient magicks, those thought forbidden and highly unknown. That's when the tragedy struck. The magic backlashed horribly, causing a massive surge of magical energy to gush forth from the leylines. Then, the world went dark. She awoke in a hospital bed, but nothing looked quite the same. Her left eye was struck amidst the blast, leaving a scar and, worse, robbing it of vision. One may say she was fortunate that this was the only permanent mark the accident left but that was only the physical. The mental scars ran deeper. Sure, she has had her share of setbacks, but never on this scale. To this day, she remains wary of invoking any ancient or ritualistic spells.
