Lusamine's research lead to the frightening discovery of Ultra Space, a catch-all term for extra dimensional holes that lead... somewhere else. These places had no pokemon that Lusamine personally recognized, instead housing mysterious, powerful Ultra Beasts. One in particular had a profound effect on the blonde, the glass-like jellyfish Nihilego had attached to her and the pair formed... some kind of bond. Lusamine never goes into detail of her time bonded, and no one has ever seen that particular Beast again afterward, but on returning to real space, Lusamine was clearly... different.

Lusamine returned with an even fiercer drive to protect pokemon, expanding operations and her personal Sanctuary. The Aether Foundation was almost entirely supported by her personal treasury and donations, and yet despite this the organization almost doubled in scope within the following year, taking the entire island of Akala as a huge nature preserve. And so as the Foundation changed and grew, so too did Lusamine personally, whispers of behind-the-scenes looks at her revealing clear tendrils emerging from her back, and foregoing her sunset dinners to instead retreat to her laboratories, allegedly preforming experiments on herself. She's very hard to get a hold of now a days, but should one be able to, her speech is frantic and her eyes glazed over, as if something else is in control...
