Oryol

Oryol is a part of the Speckled Sky.

One of two things usually happened to the legendary beasts and monsters that roamed the land when the age of adventuring and heroism began to wane and the age of science and rational thought began to gain ground:

1. They are slain by the last groups of adventurers and heroes, becoming legends and characters in stories told to children before bedtime, or

2. They are integrated into society as (still somewhat hungry) citizens, their children indiscernable in the modern age due to the dilution of their blood over multiple generations and breeding with humans.

Unlike most monsters of legend, Oryol went with a third option that most people don't consider nowadays:

3. They survive into the modern age, and they're still amongst us.

The creature known as Oryol Micrurus was known in legends not as a brute but an alleged trickster, a lonely soul that wandered from place to place, swindling heroes and adventurers out of money and loot, leading people astray, leading them into danger and just getting them lost. Her venomous bite was said to convert people into monsters just like herself, and being a lonely beast, it wasn't uncommon for her to take a lover every now and again... Whether they wanted to or not. Aside from this she was an alleged maneater, who frequented caves, though she also loved to frequent the towns at night, disguising her reptilian visage with robes and other clothing.

Now in the modern day, Oryol does things a little differently. Firstly, she doesn't wander around as much as she used to, she's settled down in Apartment 508 of the seedy apartment building Pleasant Towers, being visited day in and day out by people who know she's there and want what she's selling (though she does hit up the night clubs and bars every evening). While her reputation as a swindler and a trickster is still intact, she's also gained the reputation of a person who can get anyone anything, no problem. Despite being a bit sleezy, she still likes to sleep around... And her purported bite still does what it claims it does, though nowadays she's found a number of ways to change people to her whims (or sometimes, to other people's whims). That does explain why the population of non-humans seems to be on the rise lately...
