Aegates is a giant mermaid living in one of the oceans of
Amazonia. She lives in a grotto at the bottom of the sea and is a menace for the boating community. Beyond her man-eating appetite, Aegates is omnivorous, eating not just meat, but plants like wood and even metal. This means that Aegates likes to eat ships as well as their crew. Aegates is not totally heartless and is willing to ferry humans she has a soft spot for to shore, but she considers other mermaids more important, so a ferry ride from her might end in one of her friends' bellies.
